A few hours ago, the Florida Governor ordered all bars and nightclubs closed for the next 30 days starting 5pm today. On St. Patrick's Day. One of the biggest going-out holidays of the year. I understand and believe it is wise in the big scheme of trying to curb the spread of this virus, but my heart and prayers go out to all of my friends and family and those I don't know personally that make their living via the hospitality industry. I am losing gigs as well, but I have another occupation to keep me financially afloat. I teach history and ironically (eerily), when spring break started, we had just started a unit on the Roaring 20's. Post 1918 Influenza Pandemic and the starting of Prohibition. My thoughts are scrambled and it's hard to process it all right now, but one thing I do know is that so many people will need the support of those that can give it. For awhile.

Take care of yours and help somebody else if you can. We can get through this.

Strange Days

These are strange days my friends. Everyone is calling for "social distancing", but as recently as yesterday, all of my gigs have been full, sold-out, or well-attended. But, that's about to change. Today the president called to a limit of 10 people for social gatherings. Bars, restaurants, and everyone in the hospitality industry, as well as the entertainment industry is scrambling to deal with having their world turned upside down.

In the last two days, my vacation has been cancelled, concerts, gigs, even my dentist appt has been cancelled or post-poned. I am wondering if my teaching job will change completely to an on-line one, and I wonder if I will get to see the beautiful faces of my students again this year. You can't make this stuff up.

Please continue to support live music, bars and restaurants. I have talented musical friends playing gigs on social media now for tips, restaurants are turning to carry-out options, do what you can to support them. These are some of the best people I know, and you that support us, we consider you family.

Take care and be safe!
